Johnstown Slavic Fest returns for its 7th year

Publish date: 2024-04-25

Friday marks the beginning of the 7th annual Johnstown Slavic Festival.

Starting at 4pm, you can experience a taste of Slavic culture at the Johnstown Heritage Discovery Center with live music, food, and educational experiences.

Johnstown has a rich history of immigration that began over a century ago from countries in Central and Eastern Europe as well as the Balkans which make up the diverse ethnic Slavic diaspora. Organizers work hard each year to preserve the culture of the city’s roots.

“ I think allows people who may be a few generations removed to reconnect with those roots," said Brian Subich, chairman of the Johnstown Slavic Festival. "Maybe they saw their grandma baking something in the kitchen they can come learn how to make it here or maybe they heard stories about the old country. They can come in and hear educational stories about it here and eat the same food and drink the same drinks as their ancestors did when they arrived here in the U.S.”

The event ends Saturday at 10pm and will feature a Grammy award winning musician from Ukraine.
